Jays make too many mistakes and give away the game
Usually when the Yanks beat the Jays 11-4 it would just be a beat down but tonight the Jays had their chances to put up a battle and in the end the Jays made way to many mistakes that really did not give the Jays a chance at competing even though the Yanks 13 hits was one more than the Jays 12.
With the Jays down 2-0 on a Nick Swisher two-run double in the bottom of the first Brett Lawrie on second with a double and Colby Rasmus ground out to Nick Swisher at first and Lawrie was cut off the base and Derek Jeter tagged him out and the Jays traded a runner on second for a runner on first and was Colby was unable to score on a single by J.P. but Lawrie may of been able to score and cut the lead in half. Then in the second inning the Jays now down 3-0 collected two doubles, a single, and a walk and did not get on the scoreboard as Yunel Escobar lead off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch by pitcher Hiroki Kuroda but when Kelly Johnson struck out and Escobar was caught napping at third when catcher Russell Martin throw behind him and he was tagged out by A-Rod. The Jays still loaded the bases in the second for Colby Rasmus who was unable to come up with a clutch hit as he struck out to end the inning. After Colby Rasmus homered to lead-off the fifth in his next at bat to cut the lead to 3-1 but in the top of the sixth with relief pitcher Brett Cecil on the mound he hit Robertson Cano to start the inning and Nick Swisher singled it looked like Cecil was in trouble but he recovered to k both Curtis Granderson and Raul Ibanez and is when John Farrell brought in Jason Frasor to face Canadian Russell Martin and it turned out to a bad decision for Farrell because even though Frasor had Martin at a full count and pitch away from striking him out to end the inning and instead he got beat up by a three-run homer and the Yanks were up 7-1. Frasor ended up give up a hit to all four batters he faced and Joel Carreno came in to k'd A-Rod to end the inning. Then with the Yanks up now 8-2 in the seventhafter Anthony Gose grounded out with runners on the corners and Kelly Johnson scored the Yanks came back with a run as Raul Ibanez grounded to Kelly Johnson with runners on second and third and he throw home late and did not give J.P. a chance to tag Nick Swisher as he scored. In the eighth after Adam Lind hit a two-run homer to cut the lead to 8-4 but in the eighth Robertson Cano popped up to Yunel Escobar who was unable to catch the ball behind second and Ichiro scored to make it 9-4 and in the ninth Eric Chavez hit a two-run homer off Bobby Korecky who made his first appearance for the Jays.
It would been much different if Brett Cecil had been able to face Russell Martin after battling back with two on and no out and not given the chance to finish what he started as he pitched two innings and gave up a hit and a hit batter and if the Jays were able to fix up the bullpen in the bottom third of the game with Janssen finishing it off with another of the save.
Every player that had an at bat in the game reached base with Rajai Davis had four hits for the Jays while Russell Martin, Ichiro, Nick Swisher, and Robertson all had two hits each.
Jays starter Chad Jenkins went 4.2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and his problem happened with two quick outs in the first but then gave up two singles before Swisher's double and then allowed a single and two walks with no outs in the second before retiring 10 of the last 11 batters he faced with a double play hit by Derek Jeter that scored Raul Ibanez and he only gave up a walk the rest of his appearance.
