Desperate Jays get Melky

So Jays went out in search of a left fielder and were desperate enough to sign Melky Cabrera to a two year/16 million deal who missed the last 50 games of the regular season for the world series champion San Francisco Giants because he caught red handed with a PED in his body. So it looks like the Jays have signed a proven PED user to a deal which smacks of a desperate move and how gaping a hole the Jays feel they have but on the other side of things going into the last 50 games he would of gotten at least 16 million a season and probably 5 or 6 seasons at least. So it is like a 2 for 1 pizza as the Jays are paying him for one season before the suspension and is getting 2 seasons instead of one season. So instead of having Anthony Gose or Rajai Davis in left field they have gone to a guy who before the 2011 season he did not hit over .280 and did get more than 73 RBIs. In the last two season he hit over .300 with .305 with KC in 2011 and in 2012 .346 in 113 games with 18 HR and 11 HR in respectable seasons but he been consistent with 20 plus doubles in 6 of 7 seasons in the majors with a high of 44 in 2011. He is with his fifth team in 5 seasons and has a fielding% in left field .988 and maybe will be good but it is a bite of a risk Tom Mehegan

Jays pick up Buehrle, Johnson and Reyes from the Marlins

Tuesday night Alex Anthopoulos has finally pulled the trigger on a massive trade bringing a No. 1 pitcher in Mark Buehrle who is a huge workhorse who eats up innings morning, noon, and night as he has pitched over 200 innings in all of his 12 seasons after becoming an every 5 day starter in 2001 and has averaged almost 219 innings a season. He has a 174-132 record with s 3.82 with one losing season in his 13 season career and will be the No. 1 starter moving Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow down a notch and then in the deal they also pick up Joe Johnson who is going to be the No. 4 starter who has a very good record of 56-37 with an even better ERA of 3.15 and does not give up as many hits as innings pitched which is something Buehrle does not do but Johnson has only pitched over 200 once in 209 and has only had at least 24 starts in 4 seasons. The Jays have also picked up a massive contract in Jose Reyes, a shortstop that the Jays could of only dreamed of as a free agent last off-season and he has had a solid batting average of at least .280 over the last 7 seasons and played at least 126 games a season since becoming a everyday starter in 2005 in 7 of 8 seasons and has had a fielding% of .973 with not that much pop in his batand has 12 to 18 errors a season and the hitting will be huge in the two or five spot. The Jays got utility player Emilio Bonifacio and catcher John Buck and Buck had his best season with the Jays and it is really crowded at catcher so something may happen with Mathis or J.P. with Bobby Wilson in the system as well. The Miami Marlins are receiving Henderson Alvares who is 22 years old and will be 23 in mid-April and has had his learn curves and lets things eat at him and build up and he self destructs in an inning and is 10-17 with an ERA of 4.52 and will most likely be a good pitcher in a season. Adeiny Hechavarria is also going and has shown that he can play short and with at bats he will get better at the plate getting in hit in 20 of 23 games in September and 25 of his last 29 games. Then they are getting the Headache that is Yunel Escobar with his eye black and when he wants to perform he can but when he wants to look for the cameras and play up for the cameras he will suffer on the field and will have a problem hitting .250. The Marlins are also getting Jake Marisnick, a double A outfielder and Justin Nicolino who has a lot of upside but has only gotten to A ball so far. If it was not the Marlins this deal has no chance of happening and the Jays get a lot better pitching while the Marlins continue to blow things up and rebuild once again Tom Mehegan

Jays trade for Esmil Rogers from the Indians

The Jays traded Yan Gomez, first Brazilian major league baseball player, and what seems like another guy that wants nothing to do with this city in Mike Aviles for what is a 27 year-old relief pitcher or maybe a starter from the Cleveland Indians named Esmil Rogers. So to start having a player like Mike Aviles who could of been the everyday second baseman decide that after leaving the mess in Boston that he does not want to be an everyday player in Toronto which a little messy at the end of the 2012 season and could of been a veteran voice in the clubhouse with all the youngsters in the Jays clubhouse. Instead he ends up going to join the Cleveland Indians and his former manger Terry Francona in Boston now in Cleveland and will now be the starting second baseman for the Indians, who not won the World Series since 1948. So it is sad to see Aviles want out of town before he really ever had seen it and goes on the list with the likes of Mike Napoli, John Farrell, and Zack Greinke which have all happened under two plus seasons with AA in charge. Yan Gomez was on a yo-yo between Toronto and Las Vegas (triple A) last season played 43 games with the Jays last season and had 98 plate appearances and after a while it looked like the league had figured him out as he got k'd 32 of 98 at bats which is almost 1 out of every 3 times he had a recorded at bat. He diffidently got lost in the mix and became the first roster player from the Jays from last season that was shipped out and he will not be the last as AA is not done yet and will be looking to make a huge splash in the trade market as free agency is weak again this off-season. Jays receive in return Esmil Rogers who started as starter in 2010 and was a starter for 2011 as well and he went 8 and 9 with the Rockies and in 155 innings he gave up 204 hits in 180 innings over two and a half seasons and had an era over 6. Last season he split it between Colorado and Cleveland and was a reliever and had one of those power arms AA likes as he k'd 83 batters in 78.3 innings after having 129 as a starter in 155 innings pitched. He did do way better when he left Coolers field in Colorado as he did not give up more hits (47) than innings pitched (53) and did have an era of only 3.06 and his walks went down from 18 with the Rockies to 12 with the Indians in double the innings pitched. So it looks like he will be another power reliever and Darren Oliver maybe on his way to retirement and it is a minor trade but AA is not done yet Tom Mehegan
