Jays bullpen unable to stop Yankees

Henderson Alvarez went six inning and he gave up two runs on 7 hits did k 4 Yanks and did not walk a batter and did pitch very well and he did battle and the worst pitch he throw was to Eric Chavez to start the third given up a solo homer and gave a double to Robertson Cano and a single to Nick Swisher and then Alvarez throw a wild pitch as he was pitching to Curtis Granderson and Cano scored on it. When Farrell went to the bullpen for the seventh and the Jays were up 5-2 and usually it would be a shutdown for bullpen and the Jays would usually win the game but today he went to the bullpen for Brett Cecil who gave up a single to Eduardo Nunez and then Steve Delabar came in and gave two doubles and a walk with the only out he recorded was Ichiro RBI sac fly to the four batters he faced including a Robertson Cano RBI double. Then Arron Loup came in to face Nick Swisher with one out and he throw a wild pitch to score A-Rod to tie the game at 5 and then Loup got Swisher to hit the ball to Yunel Escobar who caught the ball on the fly and doubled up Cano at thid to end the inning. In the eighth Darren Oliver came in and walked Curtis Granderson and then a single to Raul Ibanez before being lifted for Brandon Lyon who got three outs during his four batters as the Yanks scored a run on a sac fly by Eduardo Nunez and Derek Jeter singled home a run and the Yanks take a 7-5 lead. Finally Farrell brought in Jason Frasor to hopefully get a one, two, three inning and give the Jays a chance to comeback in the bottom of the inning but instead Frasor allowed the first four batters to reach and Curtis Granderson singled in two as Frasor gave up three singles and a walk and then got a pop up and a k before Chad Beck came in to retire Eduardo Nunez to end the nightmare. In the end the bullpen allowed 7 runs on 8 hits and walked three batters during the final three innings and lead to the Yanks splitting the four game series with a 9-6 victory and it was the worst bullpen performance by the Jays since Casey Janssen into the closer rule on May 9Th. The Jays got a performance from Brett Lawrie who went 3 for 5 with a two-run homer that broke the game open in the fifth inning to make it 4-1 Jays as the Jays put up a three run fifth. Lawrie also showed that he needed to take a split second to set his feet as he in the third got a ground ball both Robinson Cano and Nick Swiaher to get the final out in the inning but the first attempt he over thow Adam Lind at first and then on Swisher's ball he bounced it into the dirt and Lind dug it out to end the inning. Need to win the last three games to be 50/50 at home simply horrible Tom Mehegan

Ricky Romero leaves the 2012 season on a sore note

Ricky Romero came out of today's game against the Yanks after three innings and 63 pitches with left leg soreness during the third inning as he fell off the mound awkwardly on his 61st pitch which was a ball to Andrew Jones with the bases juiced and one out and with so much practice at this John Farrell and the trainer came out immediately to check on him. He then took his practice throw and it was good enough for the Jays to allow him to his the third inning and on the next pitch he k'd Jones and then the pitch after that to Eduardo Nunez lined out to Adeiny Hechavarria to end the inning on a brillant play that took a couple of Ribs as from Nunez and the Yanks had a 2-1 lead. Romero walked two more to give him 106 on the season and he will end third most for a Jays pitcher in franchise history and gave up two runs after loading the bases allowing the first three batters to reach base with Jeter and Ichiro singing and A-Rod walking but he got out in good shape as Robinson Cano had a sac fly RBI and Curtis Granderson had a RBI sac fly and that was all the scoring they would do in a 3-2 Jays victory but he did loaded the bases again in the third and got out of it without given up a run and he left the game given up 6 hits and did battle to stay in the game but the train did not let him. Rajai Davis slammed his 8Th homer a solo shot with one out and cut the lead to 2-1 and behind a masterful pitching performance Mississauga own Shawn Hill who pitched three innings of no-hit ball as he walked two but did not give up a hit tied it up with a infield hit Rajai Davis which was his 7Th straight hit as with runners on the corners hit a soft ground ball to A-Rod that he beat out for a RBI in the fifth. Yanks starter Andy Pettitte got into even more trouble in the sixth as Yunel Escobar walked and was driven to second a Yan Gomez single and moved to third on a fly ball by Moses Sierra was driven home by Adeiny Hechavarria double to give the Jays the winning run 3-2 but they still had more base-running errors as Gomez took to wide of a turn at third and was caught to end the inning. It was not the only baserunning blunder as Yunel was caught leaning to third after a double as Moses Sierra lined to A-rods and he throw to Cano to double up Ecobar. The winning hit off reliever Jobba Chamberlain stretched his hitting streak to 10 games while Pettitte went 5.2 and gave 3 runs on 5 hits but hurt badly by walking three along the way. Rajai Davis had three hits and Casey Janssen picked up his 21 save of the season Tom Mehegan

Jays make too many mistakes and give away the game

Usually when the Yanks beat the Jays 11-4 it would just be a beat down but tonight the Jays had their chances to put up a battle and in the end the Jays made way to many mistakes that really did not give the Jays a chance at competing even though the Yanks 13 hits was one more than the Jays 12. With the Jays down 2-0 on a Nick Swisher two-run double in the bottom of the first Brett Lawrie on second with a double and Colby Rasmus ground out to Nick Swisher at first and Lawrie was cut off the base and Derek Jeter tagged him out and the Jays traded a runner on second for a runner on first and was Colby was unable to score on a single by J.P. but Lawrie may of been able to score and cut the lead in half. Then in the second inning the Jays now down 3-0 collected two doubles, a single, and a walk and did not get on the scoreboard as Yunel Escobar lead off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch by pitcher Hiroki Kuroda but when Kelly Johnson struck out and Escobar was caught napping at third when catcher Russell Martin throw behind him and he was tagged out by A-Rod. The Jays still loaded the bases in the second for Colby Rasmus who was unable to come up with a clutch hit as he struck out to end the inning. After Colby Rasmus homered to lead-off the fifth in his next at bat to cut the lead to 3-1 but in the top of the sixth with relief pitcher Brett Cecil on the mound he hit Robertson Cano to start the inning and Nick Swisher singled it looked like Cecil was in trouble but he recovered to k both Curtis Granderson and Raul Ibanez and is when John Farrell brought in Jason Frasor to face Canadian Russell Martin and it turned out to a bad decision for Farrell because even though Frasor had Martin at a full count and pitch away from striking him out to end the inning and instead he got beat up by a three-run homer and the Yanks were up 7-1. Frasor ended up give up a hit to all four batters he faced and Joel Carreno came in to k'd A-Rod to end the inning. Then with the Yanks up now 8-2 in the seventhafter Anthony Gose grounded out with runners on the corners and Kelly Johnson scored the Yanks came back with a run as Raul Ibanez grounded to Kelly Johnson with runners on second and third and he throw home late and did not give J.P. a chance to tag Nick Swisher as he scored. In the eighth after Adam Lind hit a two-run homer to cut the lead to 8-4 but in the eighth Robertson Cano popped up to Yunel Escobar who was unable to catch the ball behind second and Ichiro scored to make it 9-4 and in the ninth Eric Chavez hit a two-run homer off Bobby Korecky who made his first appearance for the Jays. It would been much different if Brett Cecil had been able to face Russell Martin after battling back with two on and no out and not given the chance to finish what he started as he pitched two innings and gave up a hit and a hit batter and if the Jays were able to fix up the bullpen in the bottom third of the game with Janssen finishing it off with another of the save. Every player that had an at bat in the game reached base with Rajai Davis had four hits for the Jays while Russell Martin, Ichiro, Nick Swisher, and Robertson all had two hits each. Jays starter Chad Jenkins went 4.2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and his problem happened with two quick outs in the first but then gave up two singles before Swisher's double and then allowed a single and two walks with no outs in the second before retiring 10 of the last 11 batters he faced with a double play hit by Derek Jeter that scored Raul Ibanez and he only gave up a walk the rest of his appearance.

Brandon Morrow sets the tone and Lawre breaks out

Brandon Morrow set the tone for the Jays tonight throwing a 4 hitter over seven inning and did also walked 3 Yanks on his way to helping the Jays shutout the Yanks 6-0 and the most surprising was that Anthony Gose not going after a ball off the bat of Russell Martin got booed in the top of the second louder than Yunel Escobar stepping up to the plate in the bottom of the first inning as it looks like the whole Yunel thing is forgotten. It was simply weird to have Yunel Escobar be given a Mulligan for putting something hateful on his eye black towards gays/lesbians and it just goes by the waste side and the now becomes with him now more focused at the plate going 4 for 8 in Tampa and then going 3 for 14 in Baltimore it will be interesting to see how management will handle him in the off0season as Adeiny Hechavarria is on a 9 game hitting streak 9 for 28 and average of .345 over that time and is now batting .259 after hitting under a buck for a long time. Ivan Nova one out the third had k'd 3 in a row but then he walked the number 9 hitter Anthony Gose which is a baseball sin at any level and lead-off hitter Brett Lwrie made him pay on very next pitch a nice get me over fastball that he launched for his tenth homer of the season and gave the Jays a 2-0 lead. In the fifth Edwin Encaracion with two on and one out cracked a two-run double to make it 4-0 and then got a RBI ground out with one out in the seventh and J.P. launched his 18Th homer of the season a solo shot in the eighth. The top of the order had 7 hits and 5 of the Jays 6 RBIs and it started with Brett Lawrie and Colby Rasmus both picked up two and Edwin had a three hit night. Also J.P. continue his hot hitting with two more hits to go with his 7 for 9 trip to Baltimore including a slam for good measure and lets hope Lawrie bat comes around as well so they have something to work on in the off season. Anthony Gose also had the loudest cheer as well as he robbed Nick Swisher of a big hit with one on as Gose grabbed the ball at the wall and doubled up the runner at first in the fourth Tom Mehegan

Carlos Villanueva got lite up by the long ball

So the O's got their homer swings down to perfect science tonight as they hit 7 homers and they scored all their 12 runs on the long ball in a 12-2 route of the Jays with Chris Davis slamming two homers and collected 5 RBIs while Manny Machado also had two homers in the game accounting for 3 RBIs. Jays sent Carlos Villanueva to the mound and gave him a quick 1-0 lead as Edwin Encarnacion hit his 42 homer a solo two out shot in the first and he gave it right back to the O's as Nate McLouth on the sixth pitch he saw to lead off the game tied up the ball game with a homer. Villanueva retired 12 of his next 13 batters given up a walk to J.J. Hardy that was erased on a double play and a double to Adam Jones and collected 6 ks through the first four innings and gave up a run on 2 hits and a walk and was looking good to put together a nice performance for his free agency resaume. He was looking even better when J.P. doubled with one out and Anthony Gose singled him home and moved to second on the throw home in the fifth and it looked like the Jays had something going against O's starter Miguel Gonzalez as Brett Lawrie looked to get all of a ball to left field and Nate McLouth ran the ball down and the Jays took a 2-1 lead to the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth just like in the bottom of the first Villanueva gave up the lead and is time it was Jim Thome on the first pitch he saw to start the inning and Villanueva got two quick outs and it looked like he was going keep it together but he left some pitches up in the zone and Manny Machado hit a solo shot and Chris Davis after a two two out hits stepped up and muscled a three-run homer to send Villanueva to the showers and finishing a 5 run inning. Villanueva ended up pitching 4.2 innings and given up 6 runs on 7 hits and a walk and had 7 ks in the game. With one more start against the Twins next week it looks like no matter where he is pitching he will need to build his stamina up even more as he focused on becoming a starter last off season and it worked as he pitched very good his 11 starts before September but he has been rocked by the O's twice 12 runs on 14 hits and 2 walks and five homer in 11.1 innings and then 7 runs on 8 hits and two walks in 2.1 against the Rays has a big downer in his 5 September starts. O's got a two-run homer in the sixth from Mark Reynolds off Joel Carreno which was followed in the seventh by a two-run homer by Chis Davis off Chad Beck and finally in the eighth Manny Machado hit a two-run homer off David Carpenter. While the O's scored 11 straight runs over four innings Miguel Gonzalez retired the last 8 Jays he faced and went 7 innings and gave up two runs on 5 hits with a walk and a k to win his 8 game of the season. Adam Lind collected a three hit night and Adeiny Hechavarria came off the bunch for Escobar and collected a single to stretch his hitter streak to 9 games and has collect a hit in 21 of 24 games Tom Mehegan

Jays shutout O's behind clutch hitting

Jays shutout 4-0 behind a five hitter Arron Laffy over 5.2 innings and he retired 8 O's before given up a single to Adam Jones before he put it into the hands of the bullpen and they shut down the O's on one hit and three walks to finish off the shutout. The Jays used two out hits off Joe Sanders the O's starter as Brett Lawrie lead off the game with a single and with two outs Yunel Escobar and then Yan Gomez drove in Lawrie with a RBI single to give the Jays a 1-0 lead after one inning. Sanders after retiring the Jays in order before Rajai Davis and then Adeiny Hechavarria doubled him home in the fourth and they had four two out hits of the Jays 13 hits. The Jays put away the game with a two-run seventh inning with J.P, singled to open the inning and then Anthony Gose bunted him to second and reached base on a fielding error on third baseman Manny Machado and then with one out and Colby Rasmus and Edwin Encarnacion both had a RBI single. All the Jays hitters collected a hit and Rajai Davis, Yunel Escobar, Yan Gomez, and J.P. all had two of the Jays hits and it was break out game the Jays needed to make themselves feel positive. Still wanting for the Jays to came home and what Yunel Esobar gets Tom Mehegan

Ricky Romero wins with some help from his friends

It took over three month and close to 100 days Ricky Romero finally won his 9 game of the season and the 9-5 victory broke a personal 13 game losing streak and a team 7 game losing streak and U have to go back to June 22Nd (third day of Summer). It feels good now but got into situations that got very sticky as he was up early 2-0 on a two-run homer in the top of the first and in the bottom of the first Ricky Romero throw 7 of his first 8 pitches for balls including his 100 walk of the season but Omar Visquel started a double play on a ground ball off the bat of J.J. Hardy and it like it was in slow motion and it was the first of three double plays he was apart of in the game. behind another two-run inning J.P. with runners on second and third and had a sac fly and Anthony Gose showed us his bat with a key hit with a runner with a RBI single. Ricky Romero in the bottom of the second got in trouble like usual as he gave up a two-run single to Robert Andino and then everything went wrong as Ricky fielded a ground ball by Taylor Teagarden and throw the ball to high and Yan Gomez was unable to keep his foot on the bag and then he just grazed Nate McLouth's elbow to load the bases but got out of it by getting J.J. Hardy to fly out to Anthony Gose with Adam Jones on deck to end the inning. Nate McLouth got even with Ricky Romero with a solo homer to lead-off the fifth inning and then Ricky Romero loaded the bases again with an Adam Jones double and two walks but did not get hurt as he got Endy Chavez to ground the ball to him to end the inning. Ricky went into the sixth inning with a 5-3 lead behind a Moses Sierra solo jack to start the sixth inning but it could of been a bigger lead as the Jays had runners on the corners with no outs and Gose, Lawrie, and Colby Rasmus got k'd in order by Jake Arrieta. Ricky Romero loaded the bases with no outs and he got a lot of help from reliever Brad Lincoln who gave up a RBI single by J.J. Hardy but then k'd Adam Jones and then got Chris Davis to line out to left field where Anthony Gose was now and Gose made a brilliant throw to the plate to double up Taylor Teagarden at the plate to end the inning. The Jays loaded the bases in the seventh with no outs and it looked like Jake Arrieta was going to get out of the jam but with two and a 2-1 count J.P. got just enough to reach the seats in left field on a slider to be Romero's biggest friend of the game with 5 RBIs and put Romero in the winner circle as Casey Janssen came to close the game but first loaded the bases on three straight singles and then Yunel Escobar started a double play and Omar Visquel finished it off thrown to Adam Lind who was now at first and Janssen k'd Manny Machado to end the game. Ricky Romero went 5 plus innings and gave up 4 runs on 8 hits with 4 walks to go with 3 ks and and most importantly won the game and J.P. had three hits while Omar, Moses Sierra, and Edwin Encarnacion all picked up 2 hits each. Ricky has one more start against the Yanks on the weekend and head into the off season on a very positive note Tom Mehegan

Henderson Alvarez does not get his way and loses his focus

Henderson Alvarez gave up a single and walk in the second and that was all he gave up before going to the fourth and then it all fell apart and it started with a walk to J.J. Hardy on a very close pitch where after it he went behind the mound throw up his arms and then stepped back on the mound and threw up a lop ball to Adam Jones and he tattooed it a long long way for a two-run homer to open the scoring. Ryan Flaherty got a hold of a 1-0 pitch and hit it barely into the Orioles to open the fifth and then in the sixth he loaded the bases before he got a ground ball and went for the double play instead shortening up the infield and getting the out at home and Alvarez left the game with 4 runs on 8 hits with 3 walks along with 6 ks of the O's and he gave up 4 runs on 7 hits and a walk after the pitch he wanted and did not get it. The Jays lost 4-1 and left two runners on in the first, second, and fourth inning and had their chances and did not score against Steve Johnson who gave up 3 hits and 3 walks and k'd 6 Jays over 5 innings. The Jays got a finally chance in the eighth inning with two outs and did not hit the ball hard as Edwin Encarnacion had a infield hit and Adam Lind broke his bat on a soft single and then Rajai Davis hit a ball over J.J. Hardy's head to score a run and Kelly Johnson struck out to end the inning being the tying run against Darren O'Day. Edwin Encarnacion struck out their three at bats Tom Mehegan

Chad Jenkins debut was good but Jays clutch hitting was not

Chad Jenkins pitched very well and deserved much better than a loss as Tampa Bay Rays as he went 5 innings and gave up a run on two hits along with a walk while he k'd 4 Rays and hitting Desmond Jennings along the way in an impressive major league debut. The 25-year-old from Chattanooga Tennessee throw 66 pitches but it was his tenth pitch of the game that was decision maker in the game as B.J. Upton hit a solo jack on the sixth pitch he saw from Jenkins. After walking Ben Zobrist after the homer he retired 14 of the next 15 batters to end his appearance as Jennings was doubled off by a double play in the third and Matt Joyce had a double in the fifth and did not score. The Jays had their chances against Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson as with two outs in the third Yunel Escobar and Kelly Johnson both singled and Moses Sierra was unable to continue the inning and tie the game as he grounded out to end the inning. With two on and two outs in the fifth Brett Lawrie struck out to end the inning with a surprising stat of of 0 for 17 with runners on the corners and then Kelly Johnson stepped up in the sixth against reliever Jake McGee who Adam Lind had a huge two-run RBI triple but tonight McGee after Johnson fouled off the first four pitches with two outs and the bases loaded struck him out on a fastball to close the inning. In the seventh inning the Jays had their third straight chance to tie up the game as Anthony Gose doubled with one out and moved to third on a fly ball to Center by Brett Lawrie and then J.P. Howell the relief pitcher for the Rays saved the lead with a snag of a ball behind the mound of the bat of Colby Rasmus and got him at first on a close play and Gose would of tied the game if Rasmus had beaten it out to tie up the game. Evan Longoria blew the game wide open for the Rays in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run double and Fernando Rodney came in and gave up a single Yunel Escobar who liked the quiet Tropicana field as he collect three hits in the game but Rodney then set down the Jays 1-2-3 for his 44 save. Hellickson pitched 5.2 and gave up no runs on 5 hits and walked 2 while he k'd 6 Jays Tom Mehegan

Antony Gose unable to hold onto a catch and Rays take control

The Jays were down 5-2 going into the fifth inning ans came up with some key at bats against Rays reliever Jake McGee as Anthony Gose and Brett Lawrie both singled to open the fifth and then after two quick outs Adam Lind hit a liner to Desmond Jennings who decided to dive after the ball and missed the ball and it went for a two-run triple to trim the Rays lead to 5-4. Brad Lincoln came in for the unsuccessful Brandon Morrow and quickly got Jeff Keppinger to hit a ball into the gap between center and right fielder and Anthony Gose who was in Center and ran the ball down and had to leave his feet to make the grab in the webbing of his glove for the first out of the inning but he hit the ground very hard and when the hit the ground it popped out of his glove and ended up a double. It was a huge play of the game as if the catch Lincoln ends up with a pretty clean inning only given up a tough double to Ben Francisco down the third base line past a diving Brett Lawrie but with the ball coming out of the glove it really gave the Rays an extra out and they took complete advantage of it as they collected 6 runs and put the game to bed as they went onto a huge 11-5 victory. It was the 38 inning of 4 or more and it was the eighth time this season against the Jays with the crushing blows were a pair of two-run homers by Jose Molina and B.J. Upton. The Jays got to Matt Moore in the first and was a pitch away from finishing him off in the first inning as he allowed the first three batters to reach base including an Edwin Encarnacion RBI single and Adam Lind had a sac fly to make it 2-0 but Yunel Escobar and Moses Sierra were unable to drive in a run. Moore only lasted 2.2 innings and picked up a hit and a walk the rest of the way but Joe Madden did not fell safe with Moore on the mound and had a real quick hook to make sure the Rays stayed in the game. Brandon Morrow throw 38 pitches in the first inning and walked 3 Rays and gave up a run as he walked Ben Francisco with the bases loaded but he came back in the second he did not fare much better as he throw 31 more pitches and was totally damaged by an Evan Longoria two out three-run homer to put the Rays ahead to stay 4-2. Brandon Morrow pitched a 11 pitch third inning but in the fourth he gave up a solo homer to Desmond Jennings and left the game only pitching 3.2 innings and throw 96 pitches and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits but walked four and his 42 balls really drove up his pitch count. Brett Lawrie and Rajai Davis both two of the Jays 10 hits while Jose Molina, Jeff Keppinger, and Desmond Jennings all had three of the Rays 15 his. Yunel Escobar is not hearing it yet from the fans but Baltimore maybe different on Monday and diffidently at the Rogers Centre next weekend Tom Mehegan

Carlos Villanueva Tropicana nightmare continues

Carlos Villanueva is 1-3 with 10.32 ERA in 9 career outings Vs the Rays includong a 3 run on 6 hits with 3 walks over 6 innings at Tropicana field last month and tonight he only lasted 2.1 and gave up 7 runs on 8 hits and walked two more Rays. Villanueva got two quick outs to start the game but then faced one of his nemesis Ben Zobrist who had 4 hits in like 7 at bats and had given up 3 long balls and he put the Rays on the board with another shot this one a solo job. In the second inning he allowed Carlos Pena to come to the plate and he hit a gapper that Colby Rasmus got to it and throw it in to Adeiny Hechavarria who had trouble throwing to third and it was bounced to Brett Lawrie and when the play was over teo were in and Pena was standing on third. The next pitch that Villanueva throw was a fastball to Jose Molina who sent the ball even faster to the seats in left field to make it a very quick four run inning and a 5-0 lead. In the third inning Villanueva had the first four batters to reach base ending with a Luke Scott two-run double and then after getting Pena for the first out of the inning and the last batter he faced Chad Beck came in and left the two runners Villanueva left in place and the Rays lead 7-0 after three. The Jays were unable to figure out Rays starter James Shields as he went 7 scoreless innings and gave 6 hits and a walk while baffling Jays batters to the tune of 9ks. In the end with the Jays down 8-0 in the top of the fifth they had their one and only opportunity to get back in the game as Colby Rasmus with two on and two outs and Edwin Encarnacion on deck ground out to end the inning. In the end the Jays got smashed 12-1 picking up their only run in the eighth as the Jays unloaded their bench including Yunel Escobar coming off the bench and singled for Edwin Encarnacion and Rasmus who singled earlier scored on a RBI single by Yan Gomez who replaced Adam Lind. This all happened after David Carpenter came in for the sixth and helped the Rays put up their second four spot of the game on 4 hits and a walk. The Rays bottom of the order went 6 for 13 and drove in 9 of their 12 runs as Luke Scott had 2 hits and 4 RBIs, Carlos Pena had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and Jose Molina had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Rasmus was the only Jays with two hits but they were useless as he had his cance and blow it Tom Mehegan

Jays not able to recover from a 7 run fourth inning

Going into the bottom of the fourth the Jays had a loose 2-1 lead and then it fell in for Arron Laffy who walked two in the inning around a fielding error by Kelly Johnson and left with the bases loaded. Brad Lincoln came in to face Ichiro who came in with a 8 for 9 in the series and just put the Yanks on the board in his first at bat with a solo homer in the bottom 3 and then came through with a two-run double off Lincoln. In the bottom of the fourth ended with a bang as Nick Swisher slammed the Yanks 10Th grand slam of the season to give the 8-2 lead. The Jays started a comeback with two-run fifth with a Moses Sierra two-run homer after he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then Brett Cecil gave those runs in the bottom of the inning as Jayson Nix got a RBI double and Derek Jeter had a RBI single. Kelly Johnson had a solo homer to start a three-run eighth inning to close the lead to 10-7 and then were unable to get any closer to the Yanks but his big at bat was in the top of the third when they were up 2-1 with the bases loaded and struck out to end the inning. The Jays got two more runs in the inning with a Brett Lawrie RBI single to Derek Jeter that eat him up and Mike McCoy grounded into a force out at second of Brett Lawrie. Arron Laffy in 3 inning plus and only gave up two hits and gave up 5 runs (4 earned) and his 5 walks really hurt himself and only got 3ks but Jason Frasor pitched ann inning and gave up a single and a walk and Joel Carreno pitched the final two innings and only gave up a walk to go with 5 ks. For the Yanks sack went 5 innings and throw 102 pitches and gave four runs on 4 hits and walked 3 but it was his career high in ks that also pushed up his pitches as he k'd 9 Jays in the game. O Joy Yunel Escobar is coming back tomorrow let see if he see the Rogers Centre there is a week before these two meet again Tom Mehegan

Ricky Romero ends his horrible summer in style but no win

Ricky Romero never had a clean inning and did walk 5 over his 6 inning and did give up 7 hits but he did his great job staying in control of want he was doing on the mound and may of gotten frustrated at curtain points in the game but still only had one in the summer. In the end he only gave up a single run and ended up leaving 9 Yanks on base over the time he was in the game and his biggest problem inning was the second inning as he walked Jayson Nix and Casey McGehee both with one out and then Ichiro hit a single and Nix tried to scored and both Colby Rasmus and J.P. both played the ball play perfectly as Colby got the ball and throw it home and J.P. tagged Nix just before he crossed the plate for one of the best plays in the game. Chris Stewart hit a ground-rule double to score McGehee and tie the game at 1-1 and it stayed that was til the eighth inning Ichiro stepped up to the plate with already 6 hits in the double-header and he came up with his 7Th hit of the game scoring Curtis Granderson of Arron Loup to take the 2-1 victory and Steve Delabar pick up the loss by walking Granderson. David Phelps had his problem also in the second as he walked both J.P. and Kelly with one and with two outs he faced Adeiny Hechavarria and they battled for 8 pitches with four of foul balls before Hechavarria hit a RBI single. Then Phelps retired 14 straight Jays before with one out in the seventh J. P. Arencibia hit a ball to Derek Jeter who rushed the throw to first and throw it over McGehee's head for his 10Th error of the season and it started a hornets nest for the Yanks as Phelps gave up a single to Yan Gomez and walked Hechavarria to load the bases but then Boone Logan came in and got Moses Sierra to ground out to end the inning. Rafael Soriano came in for the ninth and got his second save of the day and got 7 outs total to complete the day/night double header sweep.

Omar Visquel passes the Babe on the hit list

Omar Visquel had a two hit game and in the process he passed the legendary Babe Ruth in hits with 2,874 hits in his 24 major league season and he is 41st in hits all-time in major league baseball. He tied Babe Ruth with a single in the fourth and passed his with a RBI double in the eighth to cut a Yanks 3-0 lead to 3-2 as the Jays put up a two spot in the eighth on their way to a 4-2 victory with a Nick Swisher RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. The Jays put Henderson Alvarez on the mound to start the game and he was born just over a year after Omar Visquel major league debut and he did not come out prepared for the Yanks and he gave up hits to the first 3 batters he faced including a RBI double to Robinson Cano and after the first it was 3-0 Yanks. Alvarez retired 21 of his last 22 batters to finish the game after the first three batters and gave up two singles to Ichiro Suzuki at bottom of the third and then Robinson Cano singled in the sixth inning and was erased when he tried to steal second as A-Rod struck out and Jeff Mathis hit A-Rod on his follow through and Cano was called out at second because of the interference by A-Rod. After the first inning he pitched very well not walking a batter and gave up 3 runs on 5 hits with 7ks through a 7 inning performance. Andy Pettitte pitched for the Yanks for the first time in three weeks and he went 5 innings for the win and did not give up a run on 4 hits and 2 walks along with 3ks and then they used 6 relief pitchers to get the job done. Rafael Soriano came in for a four out save to clean up David Robertson mess with Kelly Johnson who came off the bench and hit a RBI single in the eighth and was the tying run at third and Omar was the go ahead run at second and after walking Anthony Gose to bases loaded but got Rajai Davis to line out sharply to Ichiro to end the eighth. Adeiny Hechavarria and Adam Lind had two hits like Omar Visquel Tom mehegan

Yunel Escobar PR nightmare brings Jays PR season nightmare to whole new level

Yunel Escobar put a gay/lesbian slur on his eye black and is one of worst events in Jays history up there with the Alex Rios set to with a kid at the science center and Robbie Alomar spitting on umpire John Hirschbeck at the Skydome (now Rogers Centre) and it did not happen as a Jay but played against the Jays and was integral part of the Jay franchise and ended up going into the hall of fame with the Jays. Yunel Escobar got three games for the mistake and he should of been suspended for the rest of the season and if he plays again at the Rogers Centre he would be heckled relentlessly and will want to hide and will want to leave for the rest of the season and it would huge PR nightmare for the Jays if he is back next season. He will be making 5 million dollars and will the Jays will need to eat a bit of contract to get him out of here with a couple of club option and it will be a mess. This is just the cherry on the top of a PR nightmare sundae which started with going out and trying to Yu Darvish and did not get him but it raised the expectation of the Jays in the free agent market and did not get anyone and it turned ugly for Alex Anthopoulos who people turned on quickly for not getting the job done and not raising the team budget. Then the Brett Lawrie helmet throwing incident that caused a it strom in T.O. and brought the Jays temper issues to the surface. Then 60 year-old man died at the Rogers Centre of a heartache when it took to long to get the game stop so they could get the golf cart onto the field so they could get the guy get out of the stadium. Then on September 4 they decided to open the roof during the game and then it started to rain ans they could not close the roof and it pour a lot and the mound was a mess and then they were unable to close the roof and then the fire alarms going off and it became a what are u think moment. Then we do not know what John Farrell is thinking and have really no clue to figure out where he is going to manage next season between the Red Soxs or the Jays and the fans are split on if they want to stay or go. There's always next year Tom Mehegan

Brandon Morrow and Omar Visquel help the Jays to win

The Jays behind the great pitching of Brandon Morrow who went 6 innings of 4 hit ball with 4 ks and a walk and did have to stick up for Moses Sierra losing a fly ball in the sun and not able to find it even though it was right in front of him in the first. Moses Sierra did pick up his mistake with a RBI single in the eighth to fifth and final run of a 5-0 victory. Jon Lester went into the 7 inning given up only one hit and then the Jays bats went wild pitching up 6 hits in the last two at bats as it started very innocently with a two out hit by Anthony Gose who singled and then was replaced by pitch runner Rajai Davis who stole second and was on the move to third as Omar Visquel singled through the infield to get the Jays on the board with his second hit of the game. Adeiny Hechavarria on the next pitch from Lester smashed a ball into the left field corner for a two-run homer and the only question was if it would be fair or foul. Lester went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits with a walk and 7 ks of the Jays and then in came Daniel Bard who faced three batters and gave up two hits and a walk including a RBI single by Colby Rasmus to drive in a ground-rule double to Brett Lawrie. It was good see Morrow bounce back from being slammed around by the M's and now is tied with Alvarez with 9 wins Tom Mehegan

Jays lose to Soxs in the ninth

The game came down to Steve Delabar against the Red Soxs as he came into the game with the scored tied at 2-2 with one out in the eighth with two runners in scoring position and and Dustin Pedroia walked to load the bases but after falling behind Cody Ross 4-0 and he battled back to strike him out for the second out of the inning and then got James Loney to pop up to Kelly Johnson to end the inning. Delabar came back in the ninth still in a 2-2 tie but gave up a lead off double to Jarrod Saltalamacchia and then once again battled back to strike out Ryan Lavarnway and got Mike Aviles to fly out to Anthony Gose in center field for out number 2 and Saltalamacchia tagged and moved to third and Delabar was an out away from getting through the ninth still tied except that Pedro Ciriaco came up with the big hit of the game with a hit down the third baseline for a RBI double and the Soxs won 3-2. Daniel Nava really put a wrench into the Jays plans to get a big jump on the Soxs in the second with one out and runners on the corners in a 1-1 game Anthony Gose hit a ball to him that should of been a RBI hit and instead Kelly Johnson was stuck at third for Rajai Davis who hit a ball to the wall and Nava robbed him of a two-rbi extra base hit. The Jays put together a rally with two outs in the bottom of the first with two outs started by a Edwin Encarnacion walk and then Adam Lind made them pay a double to put two runners in scoring position for Yunel Escobar who actually came through with a huge hit scoring Edwin but Adam Lind tried to score on the play and was out by a mile and a half so a base running error cost the Jays maybe a big inning. With the Jays down 2-1 in the fifth inning and they used their speed to score a run to tie the game as Anthony Gose singled and stole second and then Rajai Davis reached on a fielding error on third baseman Pedro Ciriaco and then Brett Lawrie moved the runners up to second and third but the Soxs loaded the bases by walking Edwin for the second of three times and Adam Lind scored Gose on a shallow fly ball . The thing of this inning was that it looked like Brett Lawerie bunt on his own and then Farrell had to explain why he should of been swings instead and it was weird moment as one second he is high fiving everybody and then needing to listen to Farrell tell him what he did wrong. Carlos Villanueva pitched very well getting into the eighth given up 2 runs on 4 hits and two walks while he k'd 6 and his big problem was Cody Ross who smacked a lead-off homer in the second to go 5 for 7 against Villanueva with two homers and then walked on a pitch that Villanueva and camera both felt that he had k'd Ross to end the inning but he was awarded first on a walk and two singles later he scored on a Jarrod Saltalamacchia RBI single. Clay Buchholz did not work into the ninth like last weekend but did get the ball to bullpen for the eighth and was hurt by 5 walks and two fielding errors and gave up 2 runs (one earned) on 4 hits and k'd 5 Jays. Jays need Morrow to help avoid the sweep Tom Mehegan

Jays put everybody to sleep as they could not throw strikes

The Jays loss 8-5 as the Red Soxs put up three runs in the top of ninth to break a 5-5 tie as Darren Oliver started the inning given up a single to Jacoby Ellsbury and Casey Janssen came in and got Mike Aviles flied out but Cody Ross singled off him and then Mauro Gomez crushed a two-run triple and then gave up a sac fly to Ryan Lavarnway and Janssen was asleep as the everybody in the Rogers Centre were. Jays were given an opportunity to crush Red Soxs starter Daisuke Matsuzaka likr s grape in the third inning of a scoreless game where Daisuke walked three and the closest thing that the Jays got to a hit was Moises Sierra being hit by a fastball to start the inning. So the Jays put up three runs to take a 3-0 lead without getting the ball out of the infield and Adam Lind was the only Jays to put the ball in play as he got a ground out RBI and Daisuke wild pitched home two runs and if the Jays had gotten a hit the mood in the stadium would of changed. This was because they had a number of chances to put a real crocked number as Brett Lawrie had two in scoring position and ended up walking on a wild pitch and Adam Lind had runners on the corners and Yunel Escobar had a runner in scoring position when he struck out to end the inning without a hit. J.P. Arencibia had a tough night as Arron Laffy was about to get through the first inning on 11 pitches and the third inning in 10 pitches and got a great catch by Anthony Gose who ended up ending the inning with a huge catch in the right field corner with two on. In the second inning Laffy throw 19 pitches and only 8 strikes and got out of it in four batters with nobody scoring and then he totally lost the strike zone after a sit on the bench and throw 19 more pitches and again only 8 for strikes and was only able to get two outs in the inning as Ryan Lavarnway crushed one of those 8 strikes over the left field wall for three runs and totaled four RBIs in the game. The defense fell asleep as well as Brett Lawrie in the fifth by Brett Lawrie tried unscientifically throw a ball to first off the bat of Mauro Gomez and then dove at third also unscientifically to get Mike Aviles and reliever Chad Jenkins was not able to get back in focus as Daniel Nava singled in two to give the Soxs a 5-3 lead. The Jays also had their D go south in the eighth as James Loney hit a ball to Kelly Johnson with a man on first and Yunel Escobar got the out at second but throw the ball wildly to first and he James Loney was safe and at least they did not score a run. The Jays put up a run in the sixth thanks to an Adam Lind triple and was driven home on a Yunel Esccobar single and in the eighth the Jays tied the game with a RBI double and the play of the game was Adam Lind hitting a ball to Daniel Nava who made a huge catch that robbed him of a RBI and instead he was the first out and Lawrie only made it to third as J.P. flied out to center to end the inning. If me, the players, and crowd being asleep inside a close dome was not enough then the board operator at the Roger Centre were also sleeping as with the Soxs at bat they would tell the fans who was up for the Soxs and not the Jays when both bullpens were up and going and when the Jays were at bat they told us who was warming up for the Jays which is absolutely insane especially I was looking for any pitcher who could throw strikes. Edwin Encarnacion did not play and maybe will play tomorrow after he is hurting Tom Mehegan

King Felix gets beat up by the Jays again

King Felix must have like nightmares about the Jays as in his 8 seasons in the majors he has given up 7 plus runs 15 times and tonight with the Jays winning 6-3 to avoid the sweep at the hand of the M's put up 7 runs in four innings against the King and it just happened to be the third time the Jays had put at least 7 runs against him. The Jays started warm with a Colby Rasmus single and he was driven home by Adam Lind's 10th homer of the season but in the top of the second Henderson Alvarez gave it right back as Carlos Peguero with two outs and two in scoring position delivered a two-run double to tie up the game. The story of the game also happened in the bottom of the first when Edwin Encarnacion cracked his bat and flow into the Jays dugout where it hit Bruce Walton and he he suffered a contusion on his arm and had to leave the bench for the rest of the game and the bullpen coach needed to come in and become the pitching coach. In the bottom of the fourth the Jays laid the boots to King Felix as they batted around and it looked really harmless to start as Kelly Johnson strike out and Rajai Davis hit a ball down the third base line and it stayed fair and as the ball stayed on the ground he went too far towards second and was caught in-between first and second and still made it back safely. Then after a stolen base he moved to third on a bunt single but went around third and was out and it was a runner on first with two outs and then collected three hits and a walk on their way to collect 5 runs. The big hits were a Brett Lawrie two-run single and after Colby Rasmus walked Edwin Encarnacion launched a three-run homer to cap the five run inning and give him 40 homers and 102 RBIs this season. Henderson Alvarez really controlled the game and did not let the M's back into the game and went 7 very strong innings and gave up three runs on 5 hits with three walks and picked up his 9 victory of the season and now leads the Jays in wins. Jays bats flat line as they match a season low in hits

The Jays could only mustard two hits in a 3-2 to loss to the M's and if it was not for Colby Rasmus picking up the only walking off starter Kevin Milwood just before Edwin Encarnacion unloaded a monster shot in the fourth inning to put a huge dent into the 3-0 lead the M's had coming into the at bat. They got both their hits in the inning as Adam Lind was able to get a two out single but J.P. was not able to keep the inning alive he strike out swinging. Kevin Milwood was able to retire the first 10 batters he faced before the walk and then retired the last 4 batters he faced as he gave up two runs on two hits through 5 innings with 3 ks and set the stage as their bullpen did not give up a hit but did walk two. Ricky Romero battled as he gave up 3 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks in 4 plus innings and really did battle himself as much as the M's and his down fall was the fourth inning as before the fourth the only damage was a solo homer to Miguel Olivo. In the fourth he got first two batters outs in 10 pitches and then walked the nine hitter Brendan Ryan on five pitches and the M's turned their order over and lead-off hitter Dustin Ackley and the hit of the game was Franklin Gutierrez's two-run single. Ricky Romero after the Jays fight back throw 7 straight balls and Jesus Montero walked and on a 3-1 pitch Canadian and BC native Michael Saunders hit a ball hard through the infield and that was it for Romero and the bullpen starting with former Steve Delabar came in and got three ks to get out of the inning without any extra damage even though he walked the bases loaded in the process. Romero was not happy again leaving the game and did not look at Farrell as he left but in the end it was a good choice getting him out when he did because it looked like he was ready to give it all back to the M's. The bullpen did only give up one hit and kept the Jays in fighting distance but still added 3 walks as the Jays really did not control the zone as they walked 7 all told. Kyle Seager picked up three more of the M's hits ans is 6 for 10 this series and has been a Jays killer all season which is just one of those mysteries that a .250 batter can have a team's # like this. So it is idol Vs admirer as King Felix goes up against Henderson Alvarez Tom Mehegan

Brandon Morrow lays an egg against his former team

M's beat up on Brandon Morrow to the tune of 4 runs on 11 hits in 4.2 and just did not get into a grove as he put the Jays behind the eight ball as he gave up a hit to the first three batters he faced and it was the star of the day for the M's Kyle Seager with a 3 for 5 night and coming up a triple short of a cycle getting the M's on the board with a RBI single and they never looked back winning 4-3. If it was not for either horrible base running by John Jaso or the arm of Rajai Davis or most likely a little bit of both as Jaso got thrown out at the plate by Davis with one out after a run had already scored to make it 2-0 after half an inning. The Jays got a run as they put 3 singles together capped off by Yunel Escobar RBI single in the bottom of the first but Morrow gave it back in the third as Jason Jaso brought in Kyle Seager double and then gets thrown out at third on a single by Jesus Montero. Then in the bottom of the third Colby Rasmus with singles by Anthony Gose and Brett Lawrie on with no outs got a RBI sac fly but with Lawrie on second with one out Edwin and Adam were not able to get him in as Edwin popped up to the catcher and Adam fly out to end the inning and Kyle Seager in the top of the fifth got a solo homer of Morrow and it was 4-2. M's starter Erasmo Ramirez after a Yunel Escobar double to open the fourth set down the Jays in order the next time around retiring nine straight and did not give up another hit and retired 12 of 13 starting Colby Rasmus sac fly in the third. He gave up a walk in the seventh with already Kelly Johnson on second on a two base error by center fielder Franklin Gutierre but Brett Lawrie flied out to Franklin Gutierre to end the inning. Erasmo Ramirez went 7 and k'd 6 along the way to given up two runs on 6 hits with a walk and really was solid for them tonight. The Jays bullpen of Brett Cecil, Brad Lincoln, and Jason Frasor went 4.1 and did not give up a run on 3 hits but the Jays against the M's bullpen were only able to get a a ground-rule double to Colby Rasmus who had two of the Jays eight hits and manged to score on RBI ground out by pinch hitter Moses Sierra in the eighth. The Jays did get a break in the ninth with two outs Rajai Davis was called safe at first when the game should of been over as he was out and stole second but Anthony Gose was robbed by shortstop Brendan Ryan on a ground ball that should of tied the game at 4 and he throw out Gose at first to end the game. It was Morrow's worst game of the season and the Jays have their win streak snapped at four Tom Mehegan

Omar Visquel wins the game in his last at bat at Fenway

It was a very nice day at Fenway today except that the infield dirt was still wet and it was tough for the Jays to get into the running game. In the ninth inning in a 3-3 game the sun had dried up the dirt and it was go time against starter Clay Buckholz who after Rajai Davis singled with one out he lost his focus and totally paid attention to Rajai Davis who after a tone of throws to first Rajai finally got his jump and stole second and Anthony Gose singled him to third and this is when Bobby Valentine finally got his bullpen up and working and he came out to talk to Buckholz who was ready to leave and tried to give the ball to him but Valentine did not want it. So Anthony Gose took second on indifference and they walked Kelly Johnson to load the bases for Omar Visquel who was playing in his 87 game at Fenway and most likely last at bat at Fenway he got the game winning RBI sac fly and the Jays won 4-3. In the bottom of the ninth Casey Janssen came in to try and hold down his 20 save of the season and on a 1-0 pitch to James Loney to start the inning he singled and that brought Cody Ross to the plate and on a 0-1 pitch he crushed a ball that had a very good chance of being a game-winning homer but it went just foul and on the seventh pitch of the at bat Janssen k'd Ross. When Ross went back to the dugout he did his best Mr. Perfect impersonation by spitting the gum out of mouth and swat it with his bat and then Janssen settled down and got a fly ball from Jacoby Ellsbury to Colby Rasmus in center field and then a pop up in foul ground by Yorvit Torrealba to end the game of the bat of Mike Aviles. The Jays got three runs thanks to the bottom of their lineup in the fourth with the Soxs up 2-0 as Jeff Mathis opened the scoring with a RBI single and then Omar Visquel got another sac fly to tie up the game at 2 and then Adeiny Hechavarria finished off the inning as he singled to left field and then got caught in-between first and second and Jeff Mathis scored as Hechavarria was caught in the run down and it gave the Jays a 3-2 lead. Carlos Villanueva bounced back from the nightmare of a game at the Rogers centre last Tuesday against the O's when it rained on him and the roof did not close and the mound was muddy and he ended up given up 6 runs as he went 6 innings and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 2 ks. It was two of his hits he gave up that costed him as he gave up two homers as Jacoby Ellsbury with one of the walks on in the second inning hit a ball into the bullpen in right field and then a Dustin Pedroia solo shot in the sixth inning with one out was a no doubter. Clay Buckholz went 8.2 inning and gave up 4 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 4 ks and just fell victim of Bobby Valentine not being ready for him to need backup. Jays have won 6 in a row at Fenway Tom Mehegan

Jays waited out two hours to see Anthony Gose hit a homer

It was like a three part mini series as the Jays took the second of the three game series at fenway as they waited out two rain delays and two hours and won to the tune of 9-2 which is centered around Anthony Gose who had his coming out party with his first ever homer in the majors and 5 RBIs. Before the rain showed up the Jays took Daisuke Matsuzaka to the cleaners in the second inning as he gave up 5 runs in the inning and was not able to get out of the inning and the big hit in the inning was a two-run single by Anthony Gose. Yunel Escobar lead off the inning with a homer while Rajai Davis had a sac fly RBI and Adeiny Hechavarria had a RBI double in the inning as well. Colby Rasmus messed up a perfectly fine bat around inning in the second when Edwin Encarnacion hit a fly ball to Jacoby Ellsbury and Rasmus who was on first thought there was two outs and ran around the bases but there was only one out and he got doubled up. In the bottom of the inning Anthony Gose ran down a ball in foul ground when the wind knocked down a ball that was going into the crowd. Arron Laffy who replaced J.A. Happ in the order before the rain came had an one hitter going with a walk and hit batter on his resume as well. After a 58 minute rain delay the game resumed Arron Laffy was not the same as the fifth starter as he gave up singles to Mike Aviles and Scott Podsednik who got a RBI after a walk to Ryan Lavarnway to open the inning. In the inning Adam Lind made the play of the game when with a run in to get the Soxs on the board and no outs Jose Iglesias hit a ball into foul ground and Adam Lind barely had his foot off the bag as he caught the ball and tapped the bag with his glove to double up Scott Podsednik but Laffy was not able to get the third out of the inning before the rain harder and left the game given up two runs on four hits with two walks and ks. After a 63 minute Rain delay Brad Lincoln came in and got 7 straight outs to get the game into the eighth inning with 3 ks and picked up the win and is now 5-2. In the eighth Brett Cecil gave up a sigle in 0.2 innings pitched before Jason Frasor came in after resting his arm since late-July when the Jays were in Boston and he gave up a single in 1.1 innings pitched to pick up a save. The Jays bats were completely quiet between the third and the eighth after Adam Lind singled to open the third and after 15 straight outs Colby Rasmus singled and went to third on an Edwin Encarnacion with some smart base running and scored on a RBI single by Adam Lind. Then in the ninth Anthony Gose finished the game off with a three-run homer to right field where a wet fan caught it and will probably offer something from Gose for the ball. Jays have won five in Boston and the Jays look like the Jays should off most of the season Tom Mehegan

Lawrie and J.P. back in the lineup makes Jays more comfortable

Brett Lawrie started the game delivering a huge spark to the line-up as he doubled to lead-off the game and scored the first run of the game when Edwin Encarnacion drove him home with a sac fly and the Jays took a 5-0 lead and held onto a 7-5 victory over the Red Soxs. Colby Rasmus was the big benefactor with Brett Lawrie back in the lineup as he battled starter Felix Doubront in the first inning and hitting a nubber to Dustin Pedroia who left his feet and barely got him out at first and moved Lawrie to third but he had to important hits in two of his last three at bats with a triple that barely missed a homer to start the fifth and scored to make it 5-0.Then in the top of the ninth with the Jays up 5-3 he hit an even more important two-run homer of Daniel Bard who was wild as the have seen him this season. This was a very important homer because the Jays were up 7-3 but the Soxs got a two-run homer from Mauro Gomez off Steve Delabar with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and he had three of the Soxs five RBIs and two of there seven hits as well. Colby Rasmus got some help from his friends as Edwin Encarnacion hit a solo homer in the third inning to give them a 2-0 and Moses Sierra came up with a two-run homer in the fourth inning and then added two walks as well. Yunel Escobar had two of the Jays 8 hits got a RBI single in the fifth inning and J.P. did not get on base going 0 for 4 and Adam Lind was the only other starter to not get on base. Henderson Alvarez came out with a great game plan as he moved the ball around the strike zone and kept the ball down in the zone and kept the ball in the park and he really did not get hurt in the game and really worked as a team with J.P.. He did gave up a run in the fifth inning when Kelly Johnson had a perfect double play set-up from Brett Lawrie but his throw to first skipped just before the bag and Edwin dropped the ball that would of end the inning. Alvarez gave up two runs on 4 hits with a k and two walks in 6.1 and one of the walks came into score after he left when Darren Oliver gave up a RBI single to Mauro Gomez. With one out in the seventh with Mauro Gomez at first Rajai Davis who had brain fart earlier came up clutch with a grab to save a run and end the inning as he first over runs the ball at the wall and leans back with his glove and makes the catch and Mauro Gomez was going all out as he believed the ball was not being caught so he was an easy double up at first as he was already on his way to third. It is nice to see the Jays get healthier with J.P. and Brett Lawrie returning but lost J.A. Happ for the rest of the season as he fractured his foot a couple of weeks ago which is like a Penguin doctor thing that I do not know because why did they not get x-rays done after the Yanks because it did look like he was a little off. Jays get four in the seventh to stop a four game losing streak

The Jays and O's were tied at 2-2 going into the bottom seventh with 4 hits and 11 hits through the first 24 innings but then the Jays blow the game wide open with a 4 run seventh on 5 hits and a walk and it lead to a 6-4 victory to make sure they were not swept by the O's in a series for the third time this season. The big hit on the inning was Adeiny Hechavarria with runners on the corner and bunted the ball between home and the plate and the O's starter Miguel Gonzalez came off the mound and only could shovel the ball to the plate and it missed the plate and Yunel Escobar scored to give the Jays a 3-2 lead. With the bases loaded and Rajai Davis at the plate and having did a solo homer in the bottom of the third and came up with a two-run single and Adam Jones bobbled the ball and allowed Anthony Gose to score to make it 6-2 and after the play was over Rajai was standing on third base. Brandon Morrow came up with a solid outing and got through 6 innings after the O's had a two-run second inning he faced 15 batters to get the final 14 outs he got as he only gave up a single and a double and got a double play. He only gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks and gave up a solo homer to Adam Jones and then a ground ball RBI to Manny Machado. Anthony Gose, Kelly Johnson, and Rajai Davis all had two of the Jays 9 hits and Rajai Davis came up with a three RBI night. The Jays had luck on their side in the eighth when Lew Ford with two outs and runners on first and second smoked the ball doen the third baseline and hit the line and bounced into the stands and should of been a RBI ground-rule double but the third base ump Laz Diaz called it foul and he then hit into an inning ending double play. The thing about the play is that because their is no dirt and no chalk line as it is painted on there was no proof of it hitting as chalk and dirt would of gone flying and it would of been called correctly and then when Mark Reynolds hit a two out two run dinger against Casey Janssen the came would of been much closer. Miguel Gonzalez pitched 6.1 innings and gave up 5 runs on 7 hits and did not walk anyone and struck out four batters and pitched very well until the seventh when he ran out of gas. Jays continue to plummet as they went 3-4 and has only one win in September Tom Mehegan

Jays blow up really good in the seventh and eighth

The Jays blow up really good in the second half of the game as they gave up 12 runs after the fourth as Carlos Villanueva faced 12 batters over the first four innings given up only a single that was erased by a double play hit by Manny Machado. After rhe fourth the O's put up 12 runs on 17 hits and went on to win 12-0 and it began with Carlos Villanueva given up a three-run homer to Mark Reynolds to give them a 3-0 lead and Carlos gave up a sac fly RBI by Nate McLouth in the sixth and a sac fly RBI to Robert Andino in the seventh before leaving. Carlos went 6.2 inning and gave up a 6 runs on 7 hits with a walk and 6ks and then Arron Loup had his worst outing as a Jay as he faced 6 batters and only got one out and even balked home Carlos's last run of his outing and the four of the other 5 batters scored as he finished off the three-run seventh and began the 5 run eighth ans the seventh and eighth really blow up the game putting up 8 runs in those two innings with the key hits being RBI doubles by Chris Davis and Nick Markakis while RBI singles by Mark Reynolds, Manny Machado, Nate McLouth, and J.J. Hardy. The O's got lots of hits from Chris Davis, Nick Markakis, Mark Reynolds, and Manny Machado combined for 12 of the O's 18 hits with three each and Mark Reynolds had four RBIs of the 11 RBIs in the game. The Jays only had 4 hits and only 3 hits last night and Zach Britton went 7 innings and gave up 4 hits and 2 walks and k'd 8 Jays and rhe O's have now 9 wins against the Jays in the first 13 games this season. Jays bats run into Joe Saunders who retired 17 Jays in order

The Orioles took advantage of Jays pitchers as they only had one 1-2-3 inning in the game after not being able to get a 1-2-3 inning yesterday and it started early with the sun play tricks on the Jays as Adeiny Hechavarria in the second inning could not locate the ball in the sun and at the last second slide to try and make a catch but missed it completely and the batter Manny Machado ended up on third base because of the error and was driven home by Nate McLouth on a sac bunt and it was the winning run in a 4-0 O's win. The story of the game was Joe Saunders who was on stoppable as he retired the first 17 Jays in order and had a perfect game going with two outs in the sixth when Adeiny Hechavarria spoiled it with a single to center field in front of Adam Jones. After the perfect game and no hitter was wiped out in a single blow Sanders really was not the same pitcher as Rajai Davis then walked but Colby Rasmus was unable to get a hit and then in the seventh he walked Edwin Encarnacion and Adam Lind single and after Yunel Escobar created the first out of the inning Kelly Johnson singled to load the bases and Sanders ended with 6.1 of three hit ball with two walks and two ks and simply just baffled the Jays hitters. In the seventh with the bases loaded the Jays Luis Ayala came in to face Moses Sierra and fell behind 3 and 0 Luis finally figured out his two seam fastball and after watching the 3-0 pitch for a strike Moses Sierra swung mightily at the next two pitches and struck out and Jeff Mathis who is a pretty good hitter with the bases loaded with slam and 25 RBIs to go with his .286 batting average in the situation got under the 1-0 pitch and flied out to Adam Jones. This was it for any thing of a rally as the O's who now have lead going into the eighth 59 times and have not lost yet brought in Pedro Strop for the eighth and Jim Johnson to pitch the ninth to get the final 6 Jay batters in order and are now 8 and 4 against the Jays this season and look like will win the season series for the first time since '04. J.A. Happ who has been going step to step with the best pitchers in baseball recently just could not match Sanders and did not come close and it started early when he hit his second pitch of the game hit Nick Markakis and he went 5 innings plus a batter and gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and two walks but did k 9 O's in the game. Happ's down fall was the fifth inning when he gave two RBI doubles to Nick Markakis and J.J. Hardy sandwiched around singles as the first four batters reached which came after a 1-2-3 fourth inning and made it a tough 3-0 deficit. Brett Cecil pitched the last two innings of the game and just like Happ hit the first batter he faced Nate McLouth and with one out he walked Robert Andino and with two J.J. Hardy pick up his second RBI on a single to center field and Cecil ended up given up a run on 3 singles and two walks and was a little hit and miss in the game. Jays look to Carlos Villanueva who goes up against Zach Britton who on August 24th in Baltimore pitched 6.2 and gave up two runs on 4 hits to go with two walks and 6ks Tom Mehegan

Ricky Romero mysterious summer continues

Ricky Romero maybe having a great summer away from the ball park (who really knows) but his summer pitching has been a mystery he was 7-2 coming into the summer and one his first game in the summer and after that has lost 11 straight decisions and can come unglued very easily. Today he pitched an inning plus and gave up 7 runs on 8 hits and a walk and it was not the inning that was the problem as gave up a lead off single to Desmond Jennings and with two outs Evan Longoria doubled him home and the Rays were up 1-0 and that is somewhat expected. The thing that is not expected is Ricky Romero facing 7 batters in the second inning not getting a single out which is mind blowing and is almost as unexpected as Ben Francisco hitting a homer to lead off the second inning and was very close to smashing a three-run shot in the third. With it 4-0 after Jose Molina and Desmond Jenningshad RBI singles it ended up being Ben Zobrist was the one to send the frustrated and confused Ricky Romero to the showers with a two-run single to make it 6-0 on their way to a 9-4 victory. Chad Jenkins eat up 5 innings for the Jays and did give up a homer to Carlos Pena to lead off the third along with two runs on 7 hits and was no able to get a 1-2-3 inning as the Rays had a runner on base every inning but did battle and made it possible to not have use a lot of arms and actually it only took three as Arron Laffy pitched the last three innings and gave up 3 hits and two walks while he k'd 3. The Rays had 15 different batters in the game and 13 of them had at least 1 of their 18 hits with Desmond Jennings having three of them and Ben Francisco had a 2 for 4 day with a double to go with his homer and a walk for good measure while joining Zobrist with two RBIs in the game. The Rays send Mr. Popcorn himself to the mound to day as David Price loves the Rogers Centre popcorn as much as he does pitching at the Rogers Centre as he is now 6-0 as he gave up two runs on four hits and walked 4 while hitting Colby Rasmus and k'd 5. He walked three in the second after waiting so long for that 6 run inning to be over for the Rays and had given up only 3 hits in the first 6 innings but the 7 inning it was Popcorn time as he gave up three hits and two runs while walking one and only getting two out with the crushing blow being a ground ball RBI single by Adam Lind back to David Price on his last pitch which came right after an Edwin Encarnacion sac fly RBI. Edwin Encarnacion padded his stats in the ninth with his 37th homer a two-run shot off Cesar Ramos with two outs and gives him now 95 RBIs on the season Tom Mehegan

Jays make a big comeback late but comes up inches short

The Jays went into the bottom of the eighth down 5-2 and they came up with two runs by Adam Lind against Joel Peralta who gave up three hits and a walk to his five batters to make it 5-4. Then Fernando Rodney came in to try to get a five out save and walked Yorvit Torrealba but then k'd both Kelly Johnson and Moses Sierra to end the eighth and in the ninth Omar Vizquel walked to open the inning and with two outs Colby Rasmus had a single to B.J. Upton and Omar tried to score the tying but could not get through Jose Molina as he was tackled and was tagged out to end the game and Rodney got his 40 save of the season. The thing about this play is why Anthony Gose was not sent down a few days earlier so that he could be up for this game instead of the fourth when his 10 days in triple A before being able to be brought up again as he was not being used at all leading up to his August 24 demotion. The Jays had a brain fart in the bottom of the fifth with two outs Rajai Davis and Colby Rasmus walked and with Edwin Encarnacion at the plate they tried to both steal and they took the bat out of Edwin's hands as Colby Rasmus was caught at second in a 4-2 deficit when manager John Farrell did not want anyone running with Edwin at the plate. The Rays came up with a 4 spot in the third against Henderson Alvarez who had only given up a walk going into the inning as Ryan Roberts had the first hit of the game for either team which was a homer. The homer raddled Alvarez as he gave up three hits and two walks to the next six batters with Ben Zobrist having a RBI double and Matt Joyce had a two-run double. Alvarez in the last two innings he pitched he gave up a single and a walk and the Jays only gave up four hits in the last 6 innings of the game but in the eighth Matt Joyce hit a solo homer off Brad Lincoln. The Rays got a great performance from Jeff Niemann who pitched 3.1 innings of one hit ball and faced only ten batters and then had to leave the game with arm soreness after he had not pitched since May 14 against the Jays when Adam Lind broke his leg with a line drive. J.P. Howell got rocked by Edwin Encarnacion after walking Colby and Edwin hit a ball 488 feet to cup the lead to 4-2 in the fourth. Wade Davis was the best Rays pitcher ans picked up the win as he went 2.1 innings and did not give up a hit but did get two walks. Matt Joyce and B.J. Upton both had two hits for the Rays of their 9 hits while the Rays had 7 batters getting hits Tom Mehegan
