Jays win a weird one against the Rays
It was very weird crazy night especially early and it began so innocently enough as with one out in the bottom of the first B.J. Upton hit a ball that Colby Rasmus was camped under it for out two but instead it hit the third of four catwalks above the field and it came down a little in front of Colby and B.J. was standing on second. This is where things got very weird as it turned out that if a ball hit off the third catwalk it was ruled a homer so the Umps went under the stadium to view the hit and came back and said to John Farrell that it was out of his hands and it was a solo homer.
This was a problem for Jays starter Kyle Drabek as it took 5 minutes to review the play and he was wild as he walked his first of 6 batters he walked in the game and in the top of the second inning with Edwin on first and J.P. up and he hit a ground ball to Sean Rodriguez who throw out Edwin out at second but Will Rhymes throw the ball away and J.P. was standing on second when the play was over and scored on an Eric Thames RBI single but was tagged out to end the inning when Jose Molina throw behind him to second baseman Will Rhymes who was covering first but it was tied going into the bottom of the second. The Jays took the lead on a lead offColby Rasmus double and it was followed by to sac flies to score and give the Jays a 2-1 lead.
Kyle Drabek was extremely wild in the third as he walked two and throw three wild pitches and he gave up his second run on his second hit which was a Sean Rodriguez RBI single so the Rays were tied @ 2 and only had 2 hits in the game. Drabek walked a batter in the fourth and fifth but they did get a hit including walking Jose Molina for the second time in the game in the fourth and Drabek gave up his third and final hit to Will Rhymes who was doubled up on a double play. Drabek was unhittable in the game and that is why the six walks and 3 wild pitches did not cost him as he really only gave up two hits as B.J. "homer" was a total fly ball and with Yunel Escobar's second homer of the season to deep center field in the sixth gave Drabek his fourth win of the season.
In the eighth the Rays throw the ball away and the Jays got three more unearned runs as with runners on first and second Yunel hit a dribbler past tje mound and the Rays pitcher Burke Badenhop could not recover the ball and it was bases loaded for Bautista hit a double play ball to Sean Rodriguez at third but he throw it into the outfield and two-run scored and then Edwin Encarnacion grounds into a force play and another run scored to make the final 6-2.
Brett Lawrie in his return after his four game suspension had weirdness happening to him as a fan behind the plate decided to yell and scream at him throughout his every at bat and he was so loud it drowned out the radio and TV announce teams during the at bats as hw went 0 for 4 with a strikeout.
Jays win the opener of the road trip and send Hutchison to the mound against the Rays tomorrow and do not have to face Price in the series
