Jays get back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1988

Henderson Alvarez pitched a complete game 6 hitter against the Angels as the Jays picked up a 4-0 shutout victory which is the first time since 1988 to collect two straight shutouts and the Jays have won four in a row and thankfully they have not needed a closer in three games which is a good thing and the starters have pitched 26 of the last 27 innings.Alvarez throw first pitch strikes 75% of time to Angels hitters (24 of 32) and had 13 grounds balls to fly ball outs and added 3 Ks as well and he has picked up back-to-back wins for the first in his MLB career and it was great pitching and he has gotten the run support in his last two starts as he has 12 runs in support of those two games. Ervin Santana was a sore luck loser in this pitchers duel as he gave up only 3 hits and 2 walks and k'd 10 Jays in his 8 inning performance and he got into trouble only in the third inning where he walked former Angel catcher Jeff Mathis and then gave up a two out RBI single to Yunel Escobar and Jose Bautista hit a first pitch fastball to deep center field where Mike Trout lost the ball in the sky and jumped to try to catch the ball and landed to his right and over the fence for his fifth homer of the season. Santana who truly not been pitching well this season still has zero run support over five of his six starts and the Angels are now 10 and 17 on the season. The Jays got an insurance run in the top of the ninth as both Edwin Encarnacion and Brett Lawrie ran all our and was able to beat an infield ground ball and Lawrie got a RBI single for his effort. The starters are better than advertised in the first 27 games (16-11) Tom Mehegan
