Yunel Escobar gets a 4 year contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays sign shortstop Yunel Escobar with a contract extension of 4 years and 20 million that if the Jays pick-up the final two years of the contract which are both club options he will be 30-years-old. He is signed for 2112 and 2113 which are his arbitration years and then the club has option years for the first two seasons of free agency.

As a Blue Jays player Yunel Escobar has a batting average of 278 (136 for 489) with 12 homers and 51 RBIs along with 3 triples and 15 doubles which includes 51 walks and 60 Ks in 126 games as a blue Jays player. He has been solid at shortstop as he has been a part of 90 double plays with 194 put outs along with 338 assists and has 15 errors on 547 chances to make an out which gives him a .973 fielding percentage over 124 games at shortstop.

The thing about Yunel Escobar is that he was careless and made some very careless fielding with the Braves over his 3 plus season with 42 errors in 1752 chances to make a put out and that was a fielding percentage of .976 but his bad attitude in the club house in Atlanta has been cleared up by the mentoring of Jose Bautista over the season and a half with the Blue Jays.

It looks like a solid deal for the Jays as if Escobar plays well with his bat and glove the Jays will have a solid shortstop through the 2115 season and it may be a great deal with the best shortstop Jose Reyes of the New York Mets going into Free Agency this off season and may get something like 5 years and 90 million dollars.

Go Jays Go
