Game 81 - Eric Thames hits his first major league homer as Brandon Morrow won a game @ home

So Brandon Morrow got his first home victory this season as he went into the fifth inning with 4 Ks and a hit and then with runners on the corners Matt Diaz hit a ball to third and Jose Bautista drilled the runner out at home to keep it a scoreless game but the next batter Ronny Cedeno had a RBI single to make 1-0. In the bottom of the sixth inning Eric Thames lead off the inning with his first major league homer to tie it at 1 and then Brandon Morrow fought through 7 innings and 117 pitches ( 74 s - 43 b ) of a run on 4 hits with 10 Ks along with 3 walks. Then he was awarded with his first home victory as Rajai Davis had his second of two doubles in the game and is hoping it is the start of a hot streak and that double was followed by a Yunel Escobar RBI double to give the Jays a 2-1 lead. Then Jason Frasor took over in the eighth and only walked one in the four batters he faced and then Frank Francisco only walked a batter in the four batters he faced as he saved his 9th game. The Pirates starter struggled allowing 11 runners (9 hits and 2 walks) but only gave up the two runs but it was weird to have the Jays give up more walks (5) than hits (4).

The Jays are 40 - 41 through the first half of the season and Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow have been solid starters but the surprise in the rotation has been Carlos Villanueva who is 5-1 this season and the disappointing part is that pitchers like Kyle Drabek, Jesse Litsch, and Brett Cecil (is back) have been spending way too much time on the farm and that was not way it needed to be.

Hitting wise Jose Bautista has been solid at the plate and is coming back around after a little bit of a struggle and also Adam Lind has been on a huge roll since coming off the disabled list/
