Blue Jays crushed by the long ball
Ricky Romero continue his mystery tour of a season with only one in the Summer and that came June 22 and that was 10 starts ago and tonight he started and finished the same way as his first pitch hit Alejandro De Aza and his last pitch in the seventh hit Kevin Youkilis. In between that he had his bad parts like when he loaded the bases in the second on back-to-back-to-back singles and Dwayne Wise hit a ball down into the left field corner and the left fielder Edwin Encarnacion ran a long way and catch the ball but fell hard on the turf and the ball came out of his glove and just like Colby Rasmus earlier this season learned that u need to transfer the ball from glove to hand tp record the out and the end result was a two-run single and the Chisoxs had a 2-0 lead. Gavin Floyd the starter for the chisoxs starter pitched very well and through the first three innings had given up only 2 singles but Romero in the fourth faced Dwayne Wise again with a runner and Wise crushed a two-run homer to give himself all four RBIs in the game through four innings.
The Jays got on the board with Rajai Davis at the plate with one out and runners on first (Anthony Gose) and second (Omar Visquel) and Davis was caught looking and he was not the only one as Kevin Youkilis was too and not covering the bag as the runners were running and the ball hit Visquel and he ended up on the play. During innings catcher A. J. Pierzynski (catcher) and Kevin Youkilis (third base) got into a heated argument but then separated and A.J. was glaring at Youkilis as Youkilis was looking at a bat.
The Jays tied up the game in the sixth on Kelly Johnson 14th homer of the season a three-run shot and the 4-4 tie did not last as Ricky walked De Aza and then hit Youkilis. Farrell had enough and pulled Ricky for Brad Lincoln who fell behind a lot of batters and got really hurt no than Adam Dunn on a 2-0 pitch crushing a ball to right field for a three-run blast and with two outs Dayan Viciedo did not miss 3-1 pitcha two-run shot to cap a five-run inning. Jeff Mathis hit a solo shot in the ninth to make the final 9-5 for the Chisoxs who had not won back-to-back games at the Rogers Centre in 6 years.
Ricky Romero went 7 plus and gave up 6 runs on 8 hits and 4 free passes (two walks and 2 hit batters) to go with 5 ks but struggled mightily but did retire nine straight batters after Orlando Hudson got a single right after the Wise homer while relying on the fastball way too much.
Gavin Floyd went 6 and gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits and k'd 8 and did not give up a free pass and really got hurt by Youkilis not covering third and Kelly Johnson sitting fastball and got a cutter that did not cut and launched it.
The Jays got two hits from Omar Visquel who tied Harold Baines with 2866 while David Cooper collected two hits as well and has 51 hits in his career. Dwayne Wise had two hits and was joined A.J. Pierzynski and Dayan Viciedo as the Chisoxs had 3 homers in the game.
Jays are waiting for healthy bodies and who knows when that happens
