The story of the game will not be Bartolo colon pitching only two-thirds of an inning or that the Jays scored 8 runs on 6 hits as the Jays sent 12 to the plate in first inning but instead it will be Jose Bautista sliding into third to end the bottom of the fourth inning as the Yankees got a double play to end the inning. So now what seems to have happened to Bautista the first report from the Jays is that it is a sprained ankle as his foot get catch in the dirt but he was able to leave under his own power even though he limped off and as of right now is day-to-day.
So the Jays brought 12 batters to the plate and only Adam Lind did not reach base in the first inning as 5 Jays reached base by getting hits, 2 batters reached by walks, and J.P. reached on an error by Yankees third baseman Eduardo Nunez as 5 of the 8 runs scored in the Jays first inning were unearned as everyone except Lind scored a run in the inning. So Jays got a two run double by Eric Thames which was his second double as he had scored on his first while Arron Hill had a two-run single while Rajai Davis, Travis Snider, and Yunel Escobar all had RBI singles and the final run scored on a balk by Yankees relief pitcher Luis Ayala. Bartolo Colon lasted two-thirds of an inning and throw 42 pitches and 25 of them for strikes but it was the error that cost him as Eduardo Nunez could of stepped on third and the inning would of been over while the Jays had 7 straight batters reach base with two outs. In the second inning Adam Lind finally reached base and when he crossed the plate it signaled that all the starters had reached base and scored as the Jays were leading 9-0.
After the second inning the Jays were quite for a while as the Yankees fought back only like they could as they put up a 4 spot in the third with Andrew Jones homering to open the inning and Curtis Granderson had a two-run triple and scored on a Mark Teixeira ground out but it would of been worst if it was not for a great catch by Travis Snider to end the inning. Then in the sixth inning Andrew Jones came to the plate with two on and smacks his second homer of the game and it was 9-7 but then Luis Perez came in and struck out Granderson with 2 on and one out and then Teixeira grounded out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth Edwin Encaracion had a two-run single to give himself 3 RBIs in the game and in the seventh J.P. had a RBI double and that made it so that all starters had a hit and then scores on a RBI single by Eric Thames who also had 3 RBIs in the game and finally they scored three more runs in the eighth inning as they cemented the victory 16-7 as they pounded out 20 hits against the Yankees tonight in front of a 37,000 plus fans and of course lots of Yankees fans.
Luis Perez's 1.2 innings of two hit shutout and Shawn Camp the hit eighth took it to the ninth as Jo Jo pitched 5.2 innings and gave up 7 runs on 10 hits and a walk to go with 2 Ks which all lead to the ninth inning and the return of Frank Francisco who last we saw a week ago was having hissy fit in the visitors club house in Cleveland and tonight he finished the game and gave up a single hit.
The Jays had a fun day against the Yankees and now have won four in a row and I am going to the game tomorrow
