J.P. and Colby make highlight reel catches in a romp
In a total domination of the Blue Jays 11-2 victory over the Angels of Anaheim J.P. Arencibia and Colby laid out to make incredible catches in the eighth inning. First it was a foul ball of the bat of Mike Trout who was still trying to extend his 11-game hit streak and J.P. went all the way back to the railing of the Jays dugout and was so focused on the ball that he did not care how close he was so he leaned over the railing and caught the ball and continued to somersault into the dugout and thankfully Brett Cecil was quick to his feet to hold up J.P. before something bad happened. Later in the inning Colby went all out into the gap and dove and made the catch on a gabbier of the bat of Albert Pujols and made be a mid-season contender for catch of the season for the Jays and thankfully stayed health as well.
The scored very early in the game as Brett Lawrie lead off the game running out a double as he only fell a triple short of a cycle and then created the first run of the game as Colby hit a ground ball and the Angels went after Lawrie and he was still safe and scored on a double play by Jose Bautista.
The play of the game was a play that was not made with the Jays up 3-0 in the second with two outs Paul Bourjos had the third out but dropped it off Brett Lawrie's bat and it was a key mistake as five unearned runs and six extra batters came to the plate. Kelly Johnson had the first hit of the inning and was driven home on Yunel Escobar's two-run homer and the last hit of the inning with a RBI triple and reached base 4 times with two walks as 11 total batters came to the plate and 7 runs scored in the second inning to make it a quick 8-0 lead.
The Jays got a super outing from their starter Henderson Alvarez who picked 7 innings of one run on 7 hits with 3 ks and no walks. He kept the ball low and got 12 ground ball outs and throw a first pitch strike to 23 of the 27 hitters he faced in the game. It is one of his best game of the season and maybe of his young career and he was on a much lower pitch count today as he had soreness in his elbow and it made him more focused 59 of his 80 pitches for strikes (74% strikes).
Brett Lawrie smoked a three-run homer in the fifth inning and finished the scoring and sent the almost 30 thousand home happy
